Our Mission
We strive to foster an environment for students of all backgrounds to express their ideas and tell their own stories. Our organization serves as a filmmaking community that promotes collaboration and aims to produce high-quality short films to share with the whole of Georgia Tech and to even be submitted to local, national, and international film festivals and competitions.
Creative Collaboration
By working together on short films, we get to exercise the full spectrum of filmmaking. Students can choose to participate in writing, directing, producing, shooting, acting, or editing and scoring. We constantly help each other and look for feedback from our peers.
Community
We are an organization run by students, so we learn from each other through peer mentorship and workshops. Beyond filmmaking, we go to free exclusive screenings and intend to travel to different film festivals all around the U.S.
Executive Board
Angelik Laboy
President
Angelik Laboy Torres is a fourth-year computer science major and film studies minor from Georgia Institute of Technology. She had her beginnings from creating a combination of wearable technologies and medical devices. It became her passion to do innovate prototypes that allowed the improvement of my communities’ health such as stress, colorblindness, and diabetes. Curiously enough, a side of her was also compelled to partake on the creation of stories and its rhyme. Nonetheless, through directing/editing several student films, she found the other passion within filmmaking. That led to creating two film productions in my Island and co-founding Filmmakers@GT.
Favorite movies: La Haine, Your Name, Portrait de la jeune fille en feu, 12 Short Terms etc.

He was born and raised and Tampa, Florida, and was passionate about science, and especially electrical engineering in high school. After having the opportunity to take art classes in Hong Kong, he found a passion for abstract expression, dedicated to a psychology major, and then combined this passion with his love for movies once he began studying at Georgia Tech. He aims to promote and grow a filmmaking culture and community at the institute, and hopefully continue his filmmaking passion into a professional career after graduation.

Cameron Whaley
Treasurer
Cameron Whaley is a third-year majoring in Economics and Industrial Engineering at Georgia Tech. His passion for film stems from a broader desire to know how things work. Just like he goes to class to learn elements of economic systems, he sees Filmmakers@GT as a way to learn the elements of film & demystify how so many moving pieces can synthesize into one cohesive work. As treasurer, he “helps” with the financial workings of the club and assists with other projects like creating masterclasses and maintaining this website.

Haleigh Streak
Secretary
Haleigh Streak is a fourth-year Psychology major and Film & Media Studies Minor at Georgia Tech. Since she was a little girl, she’s always been a people person—connecting with others, learning about them and their lives, and lifting them up to their full potential have always been her passions. This attracted her to studies in psychology, where being a student of human nature is easiest achieved. And when she began to delve into the vast world of human stories within global cinema—she found so much endless beauty. She met incredible people at Tech who introduced her to Filmmakers @ GT, and she became part of this amazing community of creatives. She looks forward to expanding that community during her time as Secretary, and beyond college—well, she’ll cross that bridge when she comes to it!
